Population Growth and Educational Infrastructure at Primary Level: Challenges and Solutions

The present study examined the population growth on educational infrastructure at the primary level in public schools of Rawalpindi District.The primary objective of this study was to explore the effects of an increase in the number of students on educational infrastructure and determine the solutions for improving the quality of primary education. Descriptive quantitative research design was adopted in this study. The target population for this study was primary school teachers, students and primary school administrators in Rawalpindi city.A total of 200 participants were selected using purposive sampling technique. These participants included 165 students, 15 teachers and 20 administrators from four public primary schools. Collection of data was done using a structured questionnaire which comprised of 20 questions on Likert scale. The reliability of the measuring instrument was measured using Cronbach's Alpha (α = 0.825).The results showed that population increase has led to class overcrowding and increased student enrollments, which have affected teaching efficiency and the academic performance of learners. The teachers noted that class size is a challenge in terms of classroom management, while the administrators pointed out that population increase plays a crucial role in the planning of educational institutions. The students indicated that class overcrowding has affected their participation and learning.Correlation analysis showed positive and statistically significant relationships among teacher perspectives, administrative perspectives, students’ learning environments, and proposed solutions. Effective educational planning, expansion of school facilities, recruitment of qualified teachers, policy reforms, and community participation are essential to ensure quality primary education and meet the growing educational demands of the population.
